PRINCETON, N.J. - Stanford junior K.J. Hippensteel (Roanoke, VA/International Academy) and senior Alex Kim (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill HS) have been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Doubles Team of the Month for April, the ITA announced today.
Hippensteel and Kim won the Pacific-10 Conference Doubles Championships on April 27-29 in Ojai, and finished the month 11-1 with three wins over teams ranked in the top 30. The 15th-ranked duo upset 12th-ranked Jean-Noel Grinda and Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA 8-5 in the Pac-10 semifinals before posting a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Olivier Charroin and Pim Van Mele of Arizona State in the finals. Hippensteel and Kim are 18-5 overall, 14-4 in duals, 11-3 against Pac-10 opponents and 4-3 against nationally-ranked opposition.
Kim received this honor in October of 1999 with Geoff Abrams, and was named the ITA's Singles Player of the Month in February of this year. Hippensteel, meanwhile, won the 1999 NCAA Doubles Championship with Ryan Wolters.
