2001 NCAA TOURNAMENT FIRST AND SECOND ROUNDS: The No. 1 Stanford women's tennis team will begin its quest for a national championship this Friday when it opens play in the 2001 NCAA Tournament ... The Cardinal, which earned the top seed in the tournament, will take on Boston University (11-7) on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium ... The winner advances to play either LSU (14-9) or Mississippi (9-12) on Satrday in the Second Round at 2:30 ... The winner of each regional moves on to the Round of 16, hosted by Georgia State in Stone Mountain, Georgia ... In the 2000 tournament, Stanford finished second in a close 5-4 loss to Georgia.

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE SEASON: The Cardinal completed its second consecutive undefeated regular season and is the only undefeated women's tennis team in Division I ... After going 25-0 last season and 24-0 this year, Stanford heads into the postseason with 61 consecutive regular season wins dating back to March 5, 1999 ... The Cardinal had considerable success at the National Team Indoor Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin ... As a team, Stanford defeated Baylor, USC and Vanderbilt before facing Georgia in the finals, where the Cardinal came away with a hard-fought 4-3 win ... The last time Stanford and Georgia met was in the 2000 national title match ... Individually at the National Team Indoors, Laura Granville broke an NCAA record by winning her 58th consecutive singles match ... She ended her freshman season with a 35-match winning streak and was able to break Patty Fendick-McCain's record (57) while at Stanford in 1986-87 ... Throughout the course of the season, the Cardinal beat every Pac-10 opponent twice and had non-conference wins over Hawaii, Illinois State, Fresno State, Pacific, Pepperdine, UNLV and BYU.

PAC-10 DOMINANCE: The Cardinal captured its 13th consecutive Pacific-10 Conference title this season, and also earned both Pac-10 Player of the Year and Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year honors ... Sophomore Laura Granville (Chicago, IL) brought home Pac-10 Player of the Year honors after recording a 22-1 dual record ... Granville is the defending NCAA Singles Champion and the top-ranked player in the nation ... Junior Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL) teamed with freshman Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) to bring Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year honors to The Farm ... The duo is the top-ranked doubles team in the country, and has won 23 of its 26 dual matches ... Granville and Kalvaria also earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors, while junior Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV) was named to the Second Team.
