No. 1 Women's Tennis Blanks Boston University In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

Top-ranked Stanford University (25-0) began its quest for a 12th NCAA Women's Tennis Team Championship with a convincing 4-0 victory over unranked Boston University (11-7) on Friday afternoon at theTaube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal will next meet 32nd-ranked Mississippi (10-12) in second round action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Mississippi advanced with a 4-1 win over LSU on Friday morning. The winner of the Stanford-Mississippi match will advance to the NCAA Women's Tennis Team Championships in Stone Mountain, Georgia on May 17-20. Saturday's women's match will be proceeded by a pair of first round men's matches - Florida vs. Oklahoma State at 9:00 a.m. and Pacific against Stanford at noon.
'Today's match was a good gauge of how we are playing right now,' Stanford first year head coach Lele Forood said. 'We looked pretty sharp out there.'
The Cardinal opened the win over the Terriers by not losing a game in the two doubles matches. Top-ranked Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge HS) and Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL/Boca Raton) were 8-0 winners over Christina Causway (Wilson, NC/Greenfield School) and Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Lahser HS) at No. 1, and second-ranked Laura Granville (Chicago, IL/The Latin School) and Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV/Reno HS) posted a shutout victory over Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain/Mirasierra Education) at No. 2.
Stanford then lost just nine games in its three singles victories en route to locking up its 12th shutout win of the season. Granville, who is the defending NCAA Singles Champion and top-ranked player in the country, improved to 38-1 on the year with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Causway at No. 1. Lastra then knocked off Dynof 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, before freshman Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson HS) clinched the dual with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Hannah (Rancho Santa Fe, CA/Torrey Pines HS) at No. 6.
