Lisa Wangler Earns MVP Honors At 2001 Softball Awards Banquet

EUGENE - Sophomore transfer Lisa Wangler was voted the Most Valuable Player at the annual softball awards banquet in the Pittman Room at the Len Casanova Athletic Center Sunday afternoon. Wangler was also touted as the Rookie of Year and freshman pitcher Anissa Meashintubby was recognized as the Most Inspirational Player.
Wangler, who transferred to Oregon after one season at Mesa Community College, set a new Oregon record for hits in a season (87) and led the Ducks in average all season. A true lead-off hitter, Wangler finished the season hitting a team-leading .367 and scored 37 runs. She also led the team in stolen bases (16) and total bases (93).
Defensively, Wangler pitched four shut outs for Oregon this season, including a 4-0 win over then-No. 9 Arizona State.
Meashintubby, a freshman from Monroe, Ore., led all Oregon pitchers with a 3.75 ERA and finished her first season 4-3 with 45 strike outs.
