Men's Crew Raced To A Fourth Place Finish At Pac-10 Championships
May 14, 2001
The Pac-10 Championship races were held on Sunday, May 13th. The weather was beautiful for racing, with warm temperatures and a slight breeze. Heats racing took place in the morning and the Finals were held in the afternoon. The Cardinal men competed in three events: the Varsity Eight, the Varsity Four and the Novice Eight. Each boat was ranked fourth entering the regatta. 'We viewed the Pac 10's as another chance to compete with the top West Coast Crews in the six lane format,' noted Chris Jones the lone All Pac 10 oarsman for Stanford Crew. 'Our hope is that this experience pushes us forward and encourages our development as a group.'
The final result of the day for the Stanford Varsity was a fourth place finish in the Grand Final. The Novice boat narrowly lost to UC Davis for fourth place in the Frosh/Novice Grand Final. The Varsity Four took second in the Petite Final. The Cardinal will conclude the year at the IRA Championship Regatta in Cherry Hill, New Jersey from May 31st-June 2nd.
