Men's Tennis NCAA Quarterfinal Match Postponed Until Monday
May 19, 2001
ATHENS, Ga. - The final three rounds of the NCAA Men's Tennis Team Championships have been postponed for one day due to heavy rain in the Athens area on Saturday. The postponement moves Stanford's quarterfinal match with Tennessee to Monday at noon (ET) instead of the originally scheduled Sunday.
Because of Saturday's rain delays, only six of the eight first round matches were completed. The two remaining first round matches - UCLA vs. Washington and SMU vs. Mississippi State - will be played on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (ET).
The quarterfinals will be held on Monday at noon and 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, while the semifinals will be held at the same times on Tuesday. The NCAA Finals are now scheduled for Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. (ET). The tournament was originally scheduled to conclude on Tuesday.
The individual singles and doubles tournament will now begin on Thursday rather than Wednesday. The singles and doubles finals will still be played on Monday, May 28, as originally scheduled.
The decision to postpone play was made by the NCAA Men's Tennis Committee in the best interest of the student-athletes' welfare.
