Men's Hoops Win Third Straight In Australia

SYDNEY, Australia -- For the third straight game on its foreign tour theArizona State men's basketball team broke open a close game at the half androlled to a 96-76 win over the Illawara All-Stars. ASU is now 3-0 on thetour with two games remaining.

ASU arrived in Sydney in the early afternoon and the bus ride to Illawarawas over an hour and a half. Illawara jumped out to a 16-5 lead before ASUclosed it to 23-21 at the end of the first quarter. ASU led 47-46 at thehalf before outscoring Illawara 26-14 in the third quarter. Illawara'splayers were mostly between 6-3 and 6-7 and had some solid shooters, butASU's 11-man rotation wore them down. For the third straight game at least11 Sun Devils saw quality playing time and walkons Brandon Goldman and JonBray also saw action.

ASU had five players in double figures, led by Awvee Storey's 19 points andnine rebounds. Tommy Smith added 15 points and eight boards and ShawnRedhage had 13 points, seven boards, three blocks and two steals. TannerShell added 11 points and six boards. Smith was 6-of-7 from the floor, ashe is 16-of-19 from the floor in the past two games.

Justin Allen for the third straight game knocked down three three-pointersand ended with 10 points and six boards. In the three games Allen is9-of-16 from the three-point stripe

ASU fell behind early as it had seven turnovers in the first 10 minutes buttook its first lead at 27-25 early in the second period.

ASU is scheduled to play again in Sydney at 6 p.m. (Australian Time) onMonday, May 21, which is 1 a.m. Monday in Arizona, as Australia is 17 hoursahead of Phoenix. After playing the Australia Institute of Sport tomorrowat Sutherland Basketball Stadium, ASU's next game will be on Friday, May25, at the Australia Basketball Complex against the Cairns Marlins at 8 p.m.
