Perkins' Singles Match Delayed By Rain

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Junior Erica Perkins (Seattle) will have to wait another day to begin her quest for the 2001 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship.

Rain at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga., forced Saturday's team semifinals to be completed Sunday. In turn, the national championship match between Stanford and Vanderbilt was not completed until Monday, the day individual singles play was scheduled to begin.

Perkins, ranked 36th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) will take on 54th-ranked Joanne Masongsong of Texas, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., EDT.

Senior Ana Maria Moura (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and freshman Stacy McKenna (North Bend, Ore.) will begin their run at the NCAA Doubles Championship, Tuesday as well.

Ranked 30th by the ITA, the duo will have a tough draw in the opening round of the 32-team field as they face Stanford's Laura Granville and Gabriela Lastra, the nation's second-ranked doubles team. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m., EDT.
