Cougar Tennis Trio Eliminated At NCAA Championships

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Washington State tennis players taking part in the NCAA Individual Championships were defeated in the tournament's first round, Tuesday.
Junior Erica Perkins (Seattle), making her second career postseason appearance as an individual, was defeated by Texas' Joanne Masongsong, 7-6, 6-4 in singles at the Lincoln Tennis Center.
Perkins, ranked 36th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, finished the season with 24 singles victories. She will enter her senior season with 68 career victories, fourth best in WSU history.
In doubles play, senior Ana Maria Moura (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and freshman Stacy McKenna (North Bend, Ore.) were ousted by Stanford's second-ranked tandem of Laura Granville and Gabriela Lastra, 6-2, 6-4.
Moura and McKenna finished the season with 15 wins, tied for fifth most on WSU's single season list. The highlight of the duo's year was rallying from a 5-0 deficit to post an 8-5 victory and earn the doubles point for the Cougars in their NCAA opening round win over Indiana.
