Walker Cruises in First Round of NCAA Singles

Stone Mountain, Ga. - Sara Walker had little trouble in the first round of the NCAA Sinlges Championships Tuesday, cruising to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 29 Ipek Senoglu of Pepperdine at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga.

Walker, ranked 18th in the latest ITA singles rankings, will take on Alabama Birmingham's Mirela Vladelescu in the second round on Wednesday. Vladelescu was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Stanford's Gabriela Lastra.

In doubles, Lauren Fisher and Petya Marinova moved on to the second round, posting a 6-1, 6-4 victory over LMU's Andrea Lord/Angelina Zdorovytska. They will take on Cal's Raquel Kops-Jones and Anita Kurimay on Wednesday.

The other Bruin tandem in the doubles competition, Walker and Mariko Fritz-Krockow, dropped their first round match, falling to top-seeded Lauren Barnikow and Lauren Kalvaria of Stanford, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
