Softball Announces Annual Team Awards

May 30, 2001

SEATTLE - Washington freshman pitcher Tia Bollinger (Santa Ana, Calif.), who finished the 2001 campaign with a 36-8 overall record, was named the team's most valuable player at the Huskies' annual awards banquet Tuesday at the Don James Center.

Bollinger was one of three Huskies to earn third-team All-American honors, tallying UW season records for wins, innings pitched (287.0) and games started (39). The 2001 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year led the country for most of the season in victories, while also garnering first-team all-conference honors. Bollinger was recently invited to the USA Softball Women's National Team Camp, May 30 - June 3, in Chula Vista, Calif.

The team's other two All-Americans, senior outfielder Kelly Hauxhurst (Westminster, Calif.) and sophomore shortstop Jaime Clark (Santa Ana, Calif.), shared the offensive player of the year award after finishing first and second on the team in batting average.

Senior second baseman Christie Rosenblad (Fillmore, Calif.) rounded out her career by earning the defensive player of the year award, posting a .968 career fielding percentage in 266 games.

Freshman utility player Amanda Oleson (Agoura Hills, Calif.) was named newcomer of the year, while sophomore catcher Amy Hanson (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) earned most improved player honors. Freshmen Callie Bergan (Issaquah, Wash.) and Robyn Waddle (Federal Way, Wash.) also shared the first annual Allison Mick Most Inspirational Award, which was re-named in honor of Mick, who earned the award three times in her four-year career from 1993-1996.
