Matt Pearl Signs With St. Louis Cardinals

Los Angeles - Matt Pearl (Bakersfield, CA/Garces Memorial HS) agreed to terms with the St. Louis Cardinals organization today after being drafted in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball draft on June 6th. Pearl was assigned to the Cardinals' A-League team, the New Jersey Cardinals.
Pearl earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors this season after starting all 57 games. He reached base safely in all but four games, and finished his career with a .310 career batting average.
As of June 13, six members of the 2001 Bruins have signed professional contracts. Brian Baron signed with the Minnesota Twins on May 29th and is already playing for the Fort Myers Miracle. Eric Reece signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and will play for the Hudson Valley Renegades of the New York-Penn League. Jon Brandt and Josh Canales will both play in the Pioneer League with the Idaho Falls Padres and the Great Falls Dodgers, respectively. Randall Shelley signed with the Texas Rangers and will play for the Pulaski Rangers of the Appalachian League. The only other drafted Bruin was Josh Karp who was selected by the Montreal Expos with the sixth pick overall.
