Lubner, Stokols Earn First Team Pac-10 All-Academic in Baseball

BERKELEY - Seniors Ryan Lubner and Eli Stokols both earned places on the first team Pac-10 All-Academic baseball squad, as the Bears had a total of seven players earn conference recognition.

Lubner has a 3.63 GPA in mass communications. A right-handed pitcher for Cal, he was 1-2 with a 4.23 ERA in 16 appearances in 2001. Stokols, who has a 3.59 GPA as a history and mass communications major, did not allow a run in 6.2 innings of relief work this past season.

Both junior Ryan Atkinson and sophomore Nick Medrano were on the second team, with John Baker, Jeff Lyles and Andrew Sproul earning honorable mention status.

Atkinson started 10 games for the Bears and was 0-3 with a 4.72 ERA, while Medrano saw action in 30 games with a pair of starts in the infield.

As a team, Cal was 34-25 overall, tied for third in the Pac-10 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995
