Corey Woolfolk Signs With The Minnesota Thunder
June 19, 2001
Blaine, Minn. - Corey Woolfolk signed with the Minnesota Thunder of the United States A-League this week. Woolfolk, who graduated from Stanford on Sunday, will join former Cardinal teammate Chris Gores on the Thunder.
He was drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2001 SuperDraft, but was released in March despite leading the team in the preseason with four goals and one assist.
'Corey provides a dynamic combination of speed, scoring ability and an extremely high work rate to the Thunder,' said Jim Froslid, the Thunder general manager. 'I'm confident he will score goals for us and win fans over quickly.'
Woolfolk ended his Stanford career this past season with a team-leading 12 goals and 32 points, helping the Cardinal to its best record in school history.
'I'm very excited about coming to Minnesota,' said Woolfolk, who is expected to arrive in Minneapolis on Wednesday. 'My goal is to contribute to the team immediately.'
The Thunder have an eight game home stretch beginning on Friday.
