Cal Athletes Perform Well at USA Track and Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - The California men's and women's track and field teams had a strong showing at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Three alumni led the way with top three finishes. Grace Upshaw placed second in the long jump with a mark of 21-8.75. Sheila Hudson took third in the triple jump (44-10.75), and Kristin Heaston placed third in the shot put (56-4).

Senior Dana Lawson captured sixth in the shot put (52-1), and junior Nate DeSomber finished 22nd (56-5.75) on the men's side of the shot. Senior Bolota Asmerom didn't finish the 5000m, and Missy Vanek ended up not competing in the heptathlon.

Rounding out the remainder of Cal's alumni performances were Bevan Hart placing ninth in the decathlon (7255 points) and Chris Huffins taking 18th in the long jump (24-7.75).
