July 12, 2001
Corvallis, Ore. - The Oregon State University Athletic Department in conjunction with Art FX Murals Co. in Portland, Ore., has unveiled a 42' x 28' exterior wall painting in downtown Portland. The wall is located on the corner of SW Washington and 13th Streets. A second painting will be done which reads to the Hawthorne Bridge traffic at 80 SE Madison.
'I'm proud to be affiliated with Oregon State University, and I'm excited about this project,' Mark Bennett, owner of Art FX Murals Co. and a 1969 OSU graduate said. 'I think Beaver fans will enjoy the art immensely, and I look forward to working on future projects with the university.'
The Athletic Department and Art FX Murals entered into the arrangement in February, which provides for payment of cash and trade-out for Art FX Murals, in return for provision of the wall media space and paintings.
'The concept has been in the works for quite some time, and I want to thank Art FX Murals for their efforts,' Department of Athletics Marketing Director Amy Freeman said. 'I think Oregon State fans will be excited when they see the final product. The year-long campaign reflects the commitment of the school and specifically the athletic department has for not only the football program, but for all of its intercollegiate sports programs.'
The first painting will include a photo of Heisman Trophy candidate Ken Simonton, with the home football schedule, ticket office number, and website address. The painting will change for the basketball seasons, and is scheduled to change in the spring for the baseball and softball seasons.
