Former ASU Football Players To Post Legacy In New Facility By Sponsoring Locker Room

July 17, 2001

TEMPE, Ariz. -- ASU Director of Athletics, Gene Smith, announced today that former ASU football student-athletes will have the opportunity to pass on inspiration to current student-athletes in the new ICA football locker room of the new Nadine and Ed Carson Student-Athlete Center.

The new locker room is currently under construction at the south end of Sun Devil Stadium and should be completed this fall.

For a $1000 donation, Sun Devil football alumni can sponsor a locker in the new facility. The sponsorship will include a brass dedication plaque to be placed on each locker for the life of the facility. Inscribed on the plaque will be the sponsor's:

  • Name and Uniform Number
  • Position played
  • Academic and athletic accomplishments
  • The inspirational message they desire.

In an effort to promote the rich Arizona State University football tradition, school officials feel that the addition to the locker room will be a tremendous source of pride. Also, coaches will look to the new locker room as a recruiting tool.

'I've always felt Arizona State University to be a very special place,' said associate athletic director Don Bocchi. 'Likewise, I'm always impressed with the energy, spirit and commitment that make up the Sun Devil tradition. It is that spirit and commitment that we're calling on to help today's Sun Devils become the best they can be. I have no doubt that our former players will become involved in this new mission which represents a renewed commitment to excellence,' Bocchi added.
