Baseball Year in Review

USC won its first Pac-10 Championship since 1996. The Trojans finished at 18-6 in Conference play. The Pac-10 sent four teams to postseason play for the ninth time in history and the Conference made its 51st appearance at the College World Series, 26th time with multiple teams.

For the first time ever in STANFORD baseball history, the Cardinal made its third straight College World Series appearance. It was its 13th all-time appearance. Stanford swept through their bracket with three victories, but fellto Miami, 12-1 in the National Championship game for the second consecutive season. USC made its second consecutive trip to the CWS, and its 21st trip all-time. The Trojans went 1-2 in Omaha. ARIZONA STATE and CALIFORNIA also were selected for postseason play. The Sun Devils were elminated by Texas Tech at the Cal State Fullerton regional and Virginia Commonwealth elminated the Bears from their regional at Louisiana State.

ASU's Casey Myers was honored as the Pac-10 Player of the Year for the second consecutive time and USC's Mark Prior was named Pitcher of the Year. Stanford's Carlos Quentin earned the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year award. California's David Esquer was honored with his first Coach of the Year award.
