Dave Fleming Hired as UCLA Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach
July 26, 2001
LOS ANGELES - UCLA head women's volleyball coach Andy Banachowski announced today the hiring of Dave Fleming as an assistant coach for the Bruin women's volleyball program.
As an assistant coach with the Bruins, Fleming will be the Bruins' defensive coordinator and will work with UCLA's outside hitters. Additionally, he will take over many of the technical aspects, including digital video editing duties, preparing video tape to assist the Bruin staff in scouting opponents and evaluation of players.
Fleming served as a member of the U.S. Women's Volleyball National Team coaching staff from 1994-96. That tenure included the 1995 team that won the gold medal at the World Grand Prix, the only gold medal ever won by a USA Women's team in major international competition. That year's team also earned a silver medal at the Pan Am Games. Fleming was also the team leader for the 1996 U.S. Women's (indoor) Volleyball Olympic Team.
For the past five years, Fleming has served as the client services manager and system integrator for ARK Sports Technologies, a San Diego-based firm that provides software and hardware used for digital video editing.
'We are excited to have someone with Dave's varied background join our coaching staff,' said Banachowski. 'He has excellent coaching experience from the high school level through the international level and will be a valuable addition to this program.'
Fleming replaces Burt Fuller, who left UCLA to become the head women's volleyball coach at Utah State.
