UA Women's Basketball Recruit Receives Preseason Honor

University of Arizona women's basketball recruit Shawntinice Polk has been named to the 'Top 21 New Players of Impact for 2001-02' list.

A 6-4 center from Hanford (Calif.) High School, Polk earned USA Today, WBCA, Parade and Nike All-America honors as a senior last season. She averaged 16.1 points, 13.1 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game while leading Hanford to its first-ever CIF Division II state championship and a No. 3 national ranking.

Polk is part of an incoming UA recruiting class that has been ranked as high as No. 9 nationally for the Wildcats.
