Clancy, Bluthenthal Named To Preseason Wooden Award List
USC senior forwards Sam Clancy, David Bluthenthal are among 50 preseason candidates selected for the 2001-2002 Wooden Award All-American Team the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Committee announced on Friday (Aug. 3).
The top 50 candidates have been selected based on last year's individual performance and team records. The student-athletes selected are all returning players, transfers and first-time players are not included.
Clancy earned 2001 Pacific-10 Conference, Sporting News Pac-10, NABC District 15 and USBWA District 9 first team honors as a junior in 2001, leading the Trojans last year in scoring (17.3), rebounding (7.5), field goal percentage (.501) and blocked shots (81).
Bluthenthal was USC's second-leading rebounder (6.8) and third-leading scorer (13.5) as a junior last year. He is the Trojans' 11th all-time leader in career three-pointers (109).
On Tuesday March 26, 2002, the 10-player Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced. One member of the Wooden Award All-American Team will be selected on Sunday April 7, 2002 as the recipient of the Wooden Award Trophy as the nation's 'Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year.' The event will be a one-hour telecast on FOX Sports Net. In late December, the Wooden Award committee will release the Midseason Top 30 during a half-hour program on FOX Sports Net.
