Volleyball Picked Eighth In Pac-10 Coaches Poll

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State has been selected eighth in the Pacific-10 preseason volleyball coaches poll, which the league announced Friday.

USC, last year's co-champions, was picked to defend its title. The Women of Troy received six first-place votes and 87 total points, narrowly edging out Stanford, which received four first-place votes and 84 total points.

The Beavers, who tied for seventh in last year's Pac-10 race, received 32 votes in the preseason poll.

Arizona was picked third, followed by UCLA, Washington State, Arizona State and California. Oregon was ninth, and Washington was 10th.

Oregon State returns four starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's team that posted a 16-16 record overall and a 6-12 mark in conference action.

The Beavers open the season at 7 p.m., Friday, August 31 against San Jose State in the annual OSU Volleyball Showcase at Gill Coliseum. OSU will face Southern Illinois and Sacramento State on Saturday, September 1 in the final day of the tournament.
