USC Day At The Sparks

Aug. 6, 2001

USC's Women of Troy and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks will celebrate the great Los Angeles tradition of women's basketball with 'USC Day at the Sparks' this Saturday, August 11.

In their final regular-season home game, the Sparks will host the four-time defending WNBA champion Houston Comets. The upcoming 2001-02 Women of Troy season will be promoted throughout the game which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Staples Center. The game will be aired live on NBC.

The league-leading L.A. Sparks boast center Lisa Leslie, a two-time WNBA All-Star MVP, and reserve point guard Nicky McCrimmon. Leslie (1991-94) was a three-time All-American and the 1994 Naismith award winner at USC, while McCrimmon (1994) played one season for the Women of Troy.

Houston is led by USC alum Tina Thompson (1994-97) - a three-time All-American forward with the Women of Troy.

The 2001-02 USC women's basketball team will host 'Sparks Day at USC' on Feb. 9 when the Trojans welcome cross-town rival UCLA.
