Seven Gymnasts Earn Scholastic All-America Honors
Aug. 13, 2001
The UCLA gymnastics team was a winner both on and off the floor during the 2000-2001 school year. In a year in which the Bruins won their second consecutive NCAA title, seven student-athletes earned NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors, which acknowledge gymnasts who carry a 3.5 or higher gpa during the school year.
Junior team co-captain Stephanie Johnson (Ann Arbor, MI) led all Bruins with a 3.83 gpa in Psychobiology. She and junior Lindsey Dong (San Jose, CA), who earned a 3.55 gpa, earned their third consecutive Scholastic All-America honors.
Also repeating as Scholastic All-Americans were Kristin Parker (Hanford, CA), who recorded a 3.68 gpa and also earned first-team All-America honors on vault at the NCAA Championships, and Carly Raab (Seattle, WA), who achieved a 3.77 gpa.
Sophomore Onnie Willis (Tacoma, WA), who earned a 3.64 gpa while winning the NCAA all-around title, freshman Jamie Williams (Tucson, AZ), who finished the school year with a 3.68 gpa, and freshman Alyssa Beckerman (Middletown, NJ), a 2000 U.S. Olympic alternate who recorded a 3.5 gpa in her first year of school, were first-time honorees.
