Aug. 13, 2001

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The USC women's volleyball team enters the 2001 season ranked second according to the AVCA and fourth according to Volleyball magazine's Division I preseason rankings.

For the second year in a row, USC welcomes the nation's No. 1 recruiting class (according to Volleyball, Student Sports), in addition to returning four starters from last year's squad which advanced to the 2000 NCAA Final Four and garnered the Trojans' first-ever share of the Pac-10 title. Among the veterans, the Women of Troy feature the talent of All-Americans Jennifer Pahl (Murrieta, Calif.) and April Ross (Newport Beach, Calif.), alongside all-conference players' Katie Olsovsky (Torrance, Calif.) and Toni Anderson (Yorba Linda, Calif.).

Head Coach Mick Haley enters his first official season at the helm of the USC volleyball program after guiding the U.S.A. Women's National Volleyball team to a fourth-place finish at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

The Women of Troy open the season Aug. 31 against the USC alumni at 6 p.m. in the Lyon Center. Regular season play begins Saturday, Sept. 1, when the Trojans travel to Irvine, Calif., for the UCI Invitational.
