Women's Soccer Ranked No. 5 in Soccer Buzz's Preseason Top 25

BERKELEY - After putting together a record-breaking 2000 season, the first preseason poll released predicts the Golden Bears are primed for an outstanding 2001 campaign. Cal is ranked No. 5 in Soccer Buzz's preseason national top 25 poll.

Soccer Buzz is a Web site devoted exclusively to covering women's college soccer.

After finishing last season with a 17-3-1 record and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Bears were ranked No. 13 in Soccer Buzz's final poll.

Cal returns seven starters from last year's squad, including junior forward Laura Schott, who was picked by Soccer Buzz as a preseason first team All-American.

The Bears kick off the season at home Labor Day Weekend with the 7th-Annual Cal Invitational at Edwards Stadium. The tournament begins Friday, Aug. 31, with Loyola Marymount facing Michigan at 2 p.m., followed by Cal vs. Pacific at 4:30 p.m.
