Women's Volleyball Ranked Second By Volleyball Magazine

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford women's volleyball team captured a No. 2 ranking in the preseason Volleyball Magazine poll released on Tuesday. Defending national champion Nebraska checked in at number one.

Four Pac-10 teams are ranked in the top 20 including Stanford (No. 2), USC (No. 4), Arizona (No. 9) and UCLA (No. 13). California also received votes.

The Cardinal open the 2001 season on the road at the Jefferson Cup, hosted by the University of Virginia. Stanford will take on No. 15 Minnesota before taking on host-Virginia on Friday, August 31. The team then faces Radford on Saturday, September 1.

Stanford ended the 2000 season with a 19-12 record and ranked No. 19 in the poll. The Cardinal return four starters this season, including 2000 Olympian Logan Tom.
