Johnson, Cosby To Compete Saturday For USA Junior Team At Edinburgh

UCLA sophomore Sheena Johnson and freshman Jessica Cosby will compete for the USA Junior team on Saturday (Aug. 25) at the Edinburgh International Track & Field Games, held at Edinburgh, Scotland. The U. S. squad will be competing against junior athletes from Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
On Aug. 18 at Trent, England, Johnson, Cosby and sophomore Jon Rankin helped lead the U. S. Juniors to dual victories over Great Britain. Overall, Team USA defeated Great Britain 201-76, with the U. S. menwinning 106-88 and the U. S. women also victorious, 95-88. It was the first dual meeting between junior athletes from USA and Great Britain.
Johnson, from Stafford, VA, won the women?s 400m hurdles (58.56) and also ran the second leg on the USA 4 X 400m relay, that placed second (3:36.90). Earlier this summer, Johnson won the 400m hurdles at the U. S. Junior meet, for the third time in her career.
Cosby, from Cleveland HS in Mission Hills, placed second in the shot put (50-0 3/4). At the U. S. Junior meet, held June 16-17 in Richmond, VA, Cosby became the first junior athlete in women's U. S. history to win both the shot put and hammer throw.
Rankin, from Spring Valley and Monte Vista HS, was second in the1500m (4:02.22). He qualified for Team USA by winning the U. S. Junior 1500m title. Rankin is not competing in Edinburgh because he's training with the UCLA cross country team.
