2001 Pre-Season Football Update
Aug. 25, 2001
On starting quarterback Randy Fasani:
'I think the key for him is to be able to execute like he did at the tail end of last year. If he can manage to stay healthy, he's going to be fine. As always, quarterbacking, decision-making, efficiency and accuracy are all important things but I think he's having a really good camp and playing like a fifth-year senior.'
On the 1-2 punch of running backs Brian Allen and Kerry Carter:
'I think with the combination of the two, you have what would appear to be the makings of an explosive running game. Both are a little different with Kerry being more of a bigger, physical type runner who also runs the ball very well. He's also a very gifted receiver and a solid blocker. Brian has improved his receiving skills tremendously and he's not a bad blocker either. I think between the two of them, we've got a pretty good one-two punch and you throw Casey (Moore) in there and you've got a nice mix.'
On fullback Casey Moore:
'He's proven over the last two years that he' s a big play guy (i.e. the California game) whether he's receiving or running the ball. I really think he has to get the ball more for us to be productive on offense.'
On Teyo Johnson at wide receiver:
'He's a big, physical kid who's very athletic. I think he's learning how to become a receiver so he brings a tremendous dimension to a number of areas on the field. He can be a possession-type receiver but also can run extremely well. I think he gives you that big, physical receiver that I don't think we've had here in a long time.'
On the return of nine offensive starters:
'I think we install just like we would probably with any other year. I think it allows you to be a little ahead of schedule in your efficiency and how you are executing, especially with the guys up front.'
