Women's Soccer Ties UBC 2-2 in Exhibition Match

EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon women's soccer team tied the University of British Columbia 2-2 in an exhibition Sunday at Pape' Field.

Oregon trailed 2-1 late in the game, but sophomore Ann Westermark scored a goal from 10 yards out in the 87th minute to even the match. Senior midfielder Chalise Baysa assisted Westermark's goal. The overtime period wasn't played.

Baysa got the Ducks into the scoring column early in the second half with a goal in the 48th minute.

Oregon senior Beth Bowler and freshman Nicole Garbin led the team with four shots each, while Westermark added three and Baysa two. The Ducks outshot the Thunderbirds 16-7.

UBC's Sarah Nannery recorded the game's first goal from 20 yards out in the fifth minute. Amy Diewert put the Thunderbirds ahead 2-1 in the 72nd minute on a header from a corner kick.

Sarah Peters received most of the goalkeeping duties for Oregon, recording three saves and allowing two goals.

The Ducks' regular season kicks off Friday, Aug. 31, against Gonzaga in Eugene at 3 p.m.
