USA Women Defeat Russia 79-68; Williams Scores Four

BEIJING, China - After trailing by 12 points at halftime, the USA Basketball Women's World University Games Team (1-0, 3-1) rallied Monday to upset Russia (0-1, 3-1) 79-68. Chantelle Anderson (Vanderbilt) and Shereka Wright (Purdue) each tallied 15 points and six rebounds to lead the squad.

University of Oregon junior guard Shaquala Williams had four points in a reserve role in 12 minutes of playing time. She converted 1 of 2 from the floor and hit both of her free-throw attempts.

The USA women return to action tomorrow against China (1-0, 4-0) at 11 a.m. (local time) at Betida Gym.

The World University Games features 17 teams that have been divided into four preliminary round pools. The United States is in Pool B with Canada, Japan and South Africa. Tournament quarterfinals play gets underway Aug. 27, with semifinals being conducted Aug. 30 and the medal games being held Aug. 31.
