Oregon opens the regular season at home Friday against West Coast Conference member Gonzaga (0-0). The match begins at 3 p.m. at Pape' Field.

Bill Steffen is in his sixth year as the Ducks' coach and has directed Oregon since the program's inaugural season in 1996. He has a 27-61-7 record in six years. In 1999, the Ducks finished with a 7-11-1 mark -- the best record in school history.

This will be the third meeting between the Ducks, who lead the series 1-0-1, and Bulldogs. However, the two haven't played each other since Oregon's inaugural year in 1996, when they played twice. In the first match, the teams tied 3-3 at Spokane. The Ducks then defeated Gonzaga 1-0 at home one week later.

For the third time in the program's history, Oregon will open up the season at home. The Ducks are 3-1 in season-opening games and have won three straight, including last year's 5-3 win over NCAA Tournament team San Jose State.
