Aug. 31, 2001
The New Jersey Nets have signed USC forward Brian Scalabrine, their second-round draft pick in the recent 2001 NBA Draft, it was announced by Nets President Rod Thorn on Thursday. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.
'We are pleased to add Brian to our roster,' said Thorn. 'He brings a great deal of energy and hustle to the court, which should fit in well with our style of play.'
The 35th overall selection in the NBA Draft, the 6-9 forward averaged 15.7 ppg and 6.1 rpg for the Trojans, starting 91 of 92 games in his three-year career. Scalabrine ranks sixth all-time in school history in points (1,441) and seventh in blocks (81), and was an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention last season when he averaged 14.7 ppg and 5.9 rpg.
