CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University's women's soccer team got back on the winning track Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout victory against West Coast Conference power Loyola Marymount University.
With the victory, the Beavers improve to 3-1-0 on the season while the Lions fall to 1-3-0.
The defensive battle saw neither team attempt a shot until 20 minutes into the contest.
OSU junior Katie Henderson continued her hot scoring, putting the Beavers on the board at the 25:35 mark with her fourth goal of the season.
Henderson took a pass from Mandy Melendez on the right-wing and blasted a shot past her defender that found the left corner of the goal beyond the out-stretched arms of LMU keeper Autumn Moody.
'Katie (Henderson) had another fantastic goal,' commented OSU head coach Steve Fennah. 'It was great movement of the ball by Mandy (Melendez) to set it up.'
The Beavers had just two shots in the opening half but found themselves in the lead (1-0) at the break.
Oregon State added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when junior Morgan Crabtree booted a ball that was deflected on a corner kick, into the net from 25-yards out.
The OSU defense held the Lions to just one shot on goal during the match while the Beavers attempted five.
'We did a great job defensively, holding them to just one shot on goal' said Fennah. 'It was a great team performance.'
Loyola Marymount had an 11-9 advantage in shots taken.
The Beavers hit the road to face Sacramento State at 4 p.m. Friday before returning home to host Portland State on Sunday.
