Stanford, Calif. - The No. 7 Stanford women's soccer team shut out the Dayton Flyers, 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Maloney Field in the third game of the Stanford Nike Tournament. With the win, the Cardinal have now won 13 consecutive home matches dating back to 1999.

Stanford got on the board early at the 11:57 mark on a goal from Marcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA). Callie Withers (Los Altos Hills, CA) gave the ball to Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA), who then set up Wallis for the score in the penalty area.

After taking a 3-0 lead at the break, Stanford returned for the second half the same way they left the field. Freshman Amy Grady (Pawcatuck, CT) scored her first collegiate point on an assist to Carlson. Carlson beat the keeper one-on-one from 15 yards out to record her first goal of the 2001 season in the 49 minute.

Freshmen Natalie Sanderson (Ventura, CA) and Lisa Engel (Ventura, CA) each tallied an assist when they set up Ward for the score. Ward's goal at 66:23, marked her third goal of the season and put the Cardinal up 5-0.

Stanford continued its attack and added one last goal in the 77th minute. Withers, the fifth Cardinal to score against Dayton, took a cross from Ward and found the back of the net on a header to end the Stanford scoring at six.

Carrie Walsh (Los Gatos, CA) recorded her first career shutout as a Cardinal and also recorded five saves. Stanford outshot Dayton 14-8 for the game, and saw nine different athletes record points.
