Women's Soccer Tops Gonzaga, 2-1

SPOKANE, Wash. - Oregon State University's women's soccer team continued its dominance of Gonzaga University on Sunday afternoon, recording a 2-1 victory, there ninth consecutive against the Zags.
With the win, the Beavers improve to 4-1-1 on the year while Gonzaga falls to 0-5-1 on the season.
Freshman Jillian Nicks scored her second goal of the weekend to ensure the victory for the Beavers. Nicks headed a downfield kick from Melena Ertler past Gonzaga keeper Brooke Longacre at the 24:41 mark to give Oregon State a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs got on the board when freshman Natalie Hardin scored at 50:03 on a pass from sophomore Patty Blankenship.
'Today was a good win,' commented OSU head coach Steve Fennah. 'It was another battling performance - I'm pleased with how we played.'
The Beavers tallied 11 shots in the first half but the Zags allowed only four in the second. OSU held a 15-12 shot advantage for the game.
Oregon State freshman goalkeeper Jo Fletcher collected eight saves while Longacre saved five shots for Gonzaga.
The Beavers return home to face Portland State University on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
