Women's Tennis Duo Captures Tourney Title

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Arizona sophomores Debbie Larocque and Perrine Pernin outlastedWilliam and Mary's Jessyca Arthur and Kari Olsen, 8-6, capturing the Flight A doubles championship Sunday at the William and Mary Invitational.

The duo recorded a perfect 3-0 record for the tournament.

In singles play, Larocque fell short of earning her bracket's singles title falling to No. 33-ranked Kavitha Krishnamurthy of Princeton, 6-1, 6-3. In the bracket's consolation finals consolation, UA freshman Maja Mlakar defeated Old Dominion's Lara van Rooyen, 6-1, 6-3.

Wildcat freshman Marie-Pier Pouliot wasn't able to pull off a victory in the finals of her bracket, dropping a straight sets decision to Jeanette Cluskey of Virginia Tech, 6-3,6-1. Arizona freshman Danielle Stadelmann was topped in three sets by Morgan Landes of Boston College in the gold bracket consolation finals, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

The Cats return to action Sept. 28-30, when select members of the squad will travel to San Diego for the World Team Tennis National Championships.
