Men's Golf Tied for 10th Place at The Preview by Ping & <i>Golfweek</i>

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Arizona men's golf team opened play Friday at The Preview by Ping & Golfweek with a 296 team total to stand in a tie for 10th place.
The Wildcats' 12-over-par total of 296 is eight strokes off the pace set by Clemson at 288 (+12). UA stands tied in 10th place with the University of Florida, who along with Arizona, sits atop both the Golf World and GCAA college golf polls. Wake Forest (289), Oklahoma State (290), Oklahoma (290) and Georgia (290) round out the top five on a day in which all of the team totals were unusually high.
Four Arizona players currently stand in a tie for 28th place after Friday's opening round, as juniors Ricky Barnes and Reid Hatley, sophomore Chris Nallen and freshman Kipp Riehle each carded a 74 (+3). Freshman Nathan Lashley stands in a tie for 55th place after shooting a 77 (+6). Three players currently share the tournament lead with opening-round 69s (-2).
The Preview by Ping & Golfweek features 15 of the nation's top programs competing at the site of the 2002 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Ohio State University's Scarlet Course, a par 71, 7,239-yard facility, serves as the venue for this invitation-only event.
The 54-hole tournament includes 18 holes per day and runs through Sunday.
