CORVALLIS, Ore. - Senior Leila Kaady's goal in the 95th minute helped Oregon State University upset No. 19 ranked University of San Diego, 2-1 in Saturday's women's soccer action.
The Beavers are off to their best start in school history, with a 7-1-1 record and topped a nationally ranked opponent for the first time in head coach Steve Fennah's four seasons at the helm.
Oregon State added the game-winner in overtime when senior BreeAnna Jolin fired a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar straight at Kaady, who powered it into the net.
'This was a tremendous performance and a very deserved win,' said Fennah.
OSU fell behind in the first half as San Diego's Andrea Keesling found the back of the net on a free kick from outside the box in the 40th minute.
Just 15 minutes later, the Beavers scored the equalizer as sophomore Lindsey Beem recorded her team leading fifth assist of the season on free kick that fellow sophomore, Courtney Carter, headed into the net. The goal in the 55th minute was the fourth of the season for Carter and the sixth of her career.
Oregon State had just three shots in the opening half but took 13 shots in the second period.
'In the second half after the 10th minute we dominated the game,' said Fennah.
The Beavers finished with a 19-16 advantage on shots.
OSU keeper Jo Fletcher made six saves on the day while USD's Leila Duren recorded five saves including a stop on a Beaver penalty kick in the 20th minute to keep the game scoreless.
Oregon State faces another ranked opponent when the Beavers travel to No. 5 Portland on Saturday. The Pilots lead the all-time series with OSU, 14-1. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. at Harry Merlo Field.
