Men's, Women's Basketball To Open Practice With Midnight Madness
Oct. 4, 2001
The USC men's basketball team, coming off of an NCAA Elite Eight appearance last year, and the Women of Troy basketball team kick off practice for the 2002 season with a Midnight Madness event on Friday (Oct. 12) at the Lyon Center on the USC campus. Doors open at 11 p.m.
Tickets, priced at $5 ($2 for students with ID), can be purchased at the USC Ticket Office or by calling 213-740-4672. All proceeds go to Sept. 11 disaster relief.
The NCAA-mandated first official day of basketball practice is Saturday (Oct. 13), so fans will get their first peek at the Trojans and Women of Troy when the teams hit the floor at midnight.
The event will feature introductions of both teams as well as shooting and dunking contests. Prizes will be given throughout the night.
The men's team, led by senior preseason Wooden Award candidates Sam Clancy and David Bluthenthal as well as senior All-American candidate Brandon Granville, hosts a pair of exhibition games on Nov. 4 and 9 at the Lyon Center at 7 p.m. before opening the season against Wyoming at the Sports Arena at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the Preseason NIT.
The women's squad, featuring All-Pac-10 candidate Ebony Hoffman, has exhibition games on Nov. 7 at the North Gym and on Nov. 10 at the Lyon Center. Both games are at 7 p.m. The Women of Troy open the regular season at St. Joseph on Nov. 16 and open their home schedule on Nov. 21 against Morgan State at the Sports Arena at 6 p.m.
