Men's Golf in 10th Place at the Taylor Made Red River Classic

Oct. 8, 2001

DALLAS - The University of Arizona men's golf team posted a two-under-par total through two rounds Monday and stands in 10th place at the Taylor Made Red River Classic.

Bolstered by the play of sophomore Chris Nallen and junior Reid Hatley, the Wildcats carded a two-round total of 575 (-2) to stand in 10th place after the first day of action. The two-under total is the best 36-hole total of the season to date for Arizona, but it wasn't able to make a significant move on the scoreboard, as 11 of the 15 teams were at par or better. Co-hosts Texas (558) and Oklahoma (564) rank first and third, respectively, while Ohio State is in second place at 561 (-15).

Nallen opened the tournament with his low round of the season, a 68, and finished play Monday in a three-way tie for sixth place at 138 (-6). Fellow Wildcat Hatley opened with a career-low 67 en route to his two-round total of 142 (-2), while Ricky Barnes stands tied for 29th place at 145 (+1). Barnes shot a second-round 70, just his second sub-par round of the year, to get back to within a stroke of par for the tournament.

Other UA finishers included freshmen Kipp Riehle, who is tied for 63rd place at 150 (+6), and Nathan Lashley, who is tied for 75th place at 153 (+9).

The 54-hole Taylor Made Red River Classic runs through Tuesday at the Dallas Athletic Club, a par 72, 6,766-yard layout.
