Women's Tennis To Compete At Riviera All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Three Cardinal women are scheduled to compete Tuesday morning in the qualifying singles first round of the Riviera Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Senior Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, N.J.) is seeded seventh among the qualifying draw and will square off against Katarina Balan of Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Tokuda, currently ranked No. 30 in the nation, finished last season with a 29-10 overall record and should be a force in the Cardinal lineup once again this year.

Sophomore Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, N.J.) is slated to battle Georgia's Lori Grey, one of the eight No. 9-16 seeds in the draw. Barnikow was awarded a preseason ranking of No. 73 and finished 34-7 in 2000 during her freshman year. Freshman Erin Burdette (Ojai, Calif.) is currently ranked No. 93 and faces Rebecca Ho of Penn State in her first collegiate match.

Seniors Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra, ranked Nos. 2 and 10 respectively in the preseason rankings, will also represent the Cardinal in the main draw, which begins Oct. 11.

The second round is scheduled to take place at noon and players must win three matches to advance to the main draw.
