Stanford Women One Win Short of Qualifying For Main Draw

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - All three Stanford women competing in Tuesday's Singles Qualifying Round at the Riviera All-American Championships at Pacific Palisades were victorious in their first and second round matches.
Each must win one match tomorrow in order to advance to the main draw of the singles tournament, which begins Thursday morning.
Senior Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, N.J.), competing as the No. 7 seed, led the Cardinal charge by winning her first two matches. Tokuda, currently ranked No. 30, downed Katerina Balan of Nebraska 5-7, 7-6 (1), 6-2 and edged Lauren Fisher of UCLA 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomore Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, N.J.), ranked No. 73 nationally, slipped past No. 9-16 seed Lori Grey of Georgia 7-6 (4), 6-2 before defeating Ohio State's Monica Rincon 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Erin Burdette, playing in her first collegiate matches and ranked No. 93, blanked Rebecca Ho of Penn State 6-0, 6-0 before recording another straight set win when she ousted Jennifer Redman of South Carolina 6-2, 6-2.
Tokuda will face Fresno State's Chloe Carlotti on Wednesday afternoon, while Barnikow battles Aleksandra Durska of Tulsa and Burdette sqaures off against Julie Rotondi of North Carolina.
