'This is a fun event and means a lot to Stanford Baseball,' said Cardinal head coach Mark Marquess. 'Our alumni has contributed so much to our program over the years. It's a great way to bring the old and the new from our baseball program together.'

'It's really fun for our current players to interact with the guys that are still in professional baseball, as well as some of the real old-timers,' continued Marquess. 'It's nice to have the event again after a two-year break due to the construction of our field.'

The 2002 Stanford Baseball team started fall practice on Monday, October 8. The fall session will continue through Sunday, November 4.

The Cardinal, runners-up at the College World Series in each of the last two seasons, will open the 2002 campaign February 1-3 with a three-game series versus Cal State Fullerton at Sunken Diamond. Stanford's 2002 schedule includes nine games against teams that participated in the 2001 CWS and 28 of the club's 56 scheduled contests are versus teams that qualified for the 2001 NCAA Tournament.

Stanford's fall roster consists of 31 players, including returning All-Americans Sam Fuld (So., OF), Jeremy Guthrie (Jr., RHP) and Chris O'Riordan (Sr., 2B). Carlos Quentin (So., OF) returns after earning 2001 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors and Ryan Garko (Jr., C) is back after leading the Cardinal with a .368 batting average in 2001.
