Women's Soccer Drops Oregon, 3-0

The University of Oregon women's soccer team lost 3-0 to No. 17-rankedCalifornia in each team's Pac-10 opener Friday before 716 fans at Pape' Field.
Oregon drops to 6-3-1 and 0-1-0 in the conference while the Bears improveto 9-2-1, 1-0-0.
'They were good at finishing and we weren't and that's what it basicallycomes down to,' sixth-year Oregon coach Bill Steffen said. 'We wereinconsistent, but played well at certain points. We need a higher level ofintensity for longer amounts of time.'
Despite the field position being equal for much of the game, the Bearsadded a second goal in the 54th minute by Laura Schott, who ranks 16th inthe nation in goals.
'We weren't as involved in things, we just watched sometimes,' Steffensaid. 'That's dangerous, because that's when teams take it to us. We needto play 100 percent of the time and we didn't do that. We played 75 percentof the time.'
The Ducks, who outshot the Bears 10-9 in the second half, gave up thematch's final score to Doubrava in the 65th minute on an assist from Kirk.
Oregon's Beth Bowler scored midway through the first half, but the Duckswere called for offsides, nullifying the goal.
Bowler led all players with four shots while Nicole Garbin had three forOregon. Kirk and Schott each tallied three shots for Cal. The Bears outshotthe Ducks 16-13.
