Bay Area Next Stop for Cougar Volleyball

At thehalfway point of the Pac-10 schedule, the Washington State volleyball team is9-7 overall, 4-5 in conference contests...the Cougars travel to the San FranciscoBay area to take on California (5-9, 1-7) Friday night match at Haas Pavilion,and meets #4 Stanford (14-2, 7-1) Saturday night at Maples Pavilion...bothmatches start at 7 p.m....this is WSU's second weekend on the road andconsidering a volleyball match with the new rally scoring format can be playedin half the time the team spends in an airport, three matches at home thefollowing week looks good.

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS (5-9, 1-7 pending 10/16 at San JoseState) -
LAST TIME - WSU defeated Cal 30-26, 30-14, 30-11, atPullman...Cal's sole win in conference play is a 3-0 victory over Oregon...theBears have dropped their last four matches, three to ranked teams...6-3freshman OH Mia Jerkov, has only played in four complete matches for Cal,after playing on the Croatian Junior National team in the World Junior Champs(Dominican Republic) and European Champs (Bulgaria)...Jerkov leads the teamwith 3.56 kills per game...Gabrielle Abernathy (So., OH) adds 3.41 kpg...juniorReena Pardiwala leads the team with 2.57 digs per Rich Feller(31-39, 3 years at Cal, 330-206, 17 years overall)...WSU leads the series withCal, 20-17 overall and 20-11 in Pac-10 matches...the Bears hold a slim lead inthe series at home, 8-7...Cougs have been victorious the past two meetings.

LASTTIME - Stanford swept WSU 30-28, 30-26, 30-22, at Pullman...the Cardinal'stwo losses came at top-ranked Long Beach State and at USC...the loss at SCwas last Friday night (3-1)...junior All-American OH Logan Tom leads the waywith 4.72 kpg (2nd Pac-10) and 3.29 dpg (2nd Pac-10)...freshman OH OgonnaNnamami is making a strong bid for conference rookie of the year with 3.66 kpg(10th Pac-10) and 2.21 dpg...Stanford puts up a big block (3.83 bpg) with SaraMcGee (1.77 bpg, 1st Pac-10), Tara Conrad (1.32 bpg, 3rd Pac-10), JenniferHarvey (1.11. bpg), and Ivy Ashley (1.06 bpg, 10th Pac-10) coach JohnDunning coached for 16 years at Pacific and has a career record of 451-104, 17years...Stanford leads the series, 30-2 overall, 29-2 in Pac-10matches...Stanford leads the series with WSU 15-0 when played at Stanford.
