Wrestling Ranked 12th in Preseason InterMat Poll

TEMPE, Ariz. - Preseason team and individual Div. I wrestling rankings released by InterMat Wednesday, feature Arizona State ranked 12th in the nation, with junior Eric Larkin No. 1 at 141 pounds and senior David Douglas No. 3 at 133 pounds.

Larkin, a two-time All-American and the 2001 Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year, is coming off a third place finish at last year's NCAA Championships. Douglas earned his first All-America honors with a seventh-place finish at the 2001 NCAA Championships.

ASU had a total of seven wrestlers garner preseason rankings in their respective weight classes: junior Rocky Smart (11th at 157 pounds), sophomore Nick Frost (ninth at 165), senior Curtis Owen (18th at 174), senior Erik Gladish (10th at 197) and junior Hector Torres (15th at heavyweight).

Under the direction of first-year head coach Thom Ortiz, the Sun Devils open the season next weekend at the Sunkist Kids/ASU International Open, held at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Sat. Oct. 27 and Sun., Oct. 28.
