Cross Country Runners Compete As Individuals At San Francisco Running And Walking Open

San Francisco, Calif. - Five runners representing the Stanford men's cross country team and one representing the Cardinal women's squad ran as individuals at the San Francisco Running and Walking Open held Saturday at Golden Gate Park. Stanford's top individual men's finisher was Jamey Gifford, who covered the 4.1 mile course in 21:15. Evan Fox finished sixth in 21:30. Nathan Stoll (10th, 21:50), Steve Loughlin (13th, 22:12) and Josh Sohn (14th, 22:39) also competed for the Cardinal men.
Lauren Gustafson was the only competitor for the Cardinal women, taking second place with a time of 17:06 in the 2.8 mile run.
Both races were non-scoring team events.
The Stanford men's and women's cross country teams will next compete at the Pac-10 Championships (Scottsdale, AZ) on Saturday, October 27. The women's race begins at 10:00 a.m. (MT) with the men's run to follow at 11:00 a.m. Stanford is the five-time defending champion in the women's competition and has won four of the last five Pac-10 titles on the men's side.
