Pendleton Paces Women's Golf At Stanford Intercollegiate
Oct. 20, 2001
STANFORD, Calif. - - Oregon State's women's golf team moved back into a tie for 13th place after the second round at the Stanford Intercollegiate Saturday. OSU shot a 308 as a team Saturday to bring their two-day total to 612.
Junior Ashlei Pendleton led the squad for the second straight day, firing a 3-over-75 at the 6,154-yard Stanford Golf Course. Pendleton had a round-one score of 73, and sits in a tie for 25th overall. The Las Vegas, Nevada native is looking for her second consecutive top-25 finish after taking 10th at the OSU Shanico earlier this month.
Laura Skinner, who has shown marked improvement this year, is tied for 32nd after her round of 76 on the heels of an opening-round 74. Stacie Ferguson tallied a second round 77 to tie for 58th, Alexandra Lucio is knotted at 67th after an 80, and Kelly Ferris is in 84th after carding an 84 for the Beavers.
'We kind of struggled today and were pressing to do a little better,' OSU coach Rise Lakowske said. 'We'd talked about staying calm and patient, staying in the moment and staying focused. I think they pressed and wanted to do well, but they've got to find their own way to stay patient and stay calm - it's that kind of game.
'They've got to learn how to put pressure on the golf course and not let the course put pressure on them, so that's what they're struggling with. They're making progress, and it should start showing up on the scorecard eventually.'
Tulsa overtook Vanderbilt for first place Saturday and holds a six-stroke lead at 570. Arizona State's Jimin Kang is the top individual heading into Sunday's final round with a 36-hole total of 134. Kang maintained a two-stroke lead over Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa and Nicki Cutler of Vanderbilt.
