Oct. 23, 2001

CORVALLIS, ORE. - The Oregon State University men's basketball team will hold a scrimmage, beginning at 11 a.m. Sat., Oct. 27 in Gill Coliseum. The scrimmage is open to the public.

'The biggest difference from last year's team that fans will notice immediately is the number of bodies we have on the floor,' second-year head coach Ritchie McKay said after Tuesday's practice. 'As a whole, we have improved mentally, we are more disciplined, we are stronger, and we our executing at a higher level.'

This year's team features 10 newcomers, plus five returning letterwinners. The returning starters from the 2000-2001 team include senior Adam Masten, and juniors Jimmie Haywood and Brian Jackson.

'We are certainly getting closer to defining the starting lineup and the rolls each player on the roster will fill, but we are also continuing to experiment with different groups until we have determined our best five,' McKay added.

The Beavers open the season with an exhibition game Nov. 4 at Gill Coliseum, with the regular season beginning Nov. 17 at home against Northern Colorado.
